Guide to Preparing for a Zoom Class
If you are reading this you are probably getting pumped about taking one of our classes- Don’t let all this technical mumbo jumbo bring you down. It’s pretty simple and once you do it once- You’ll never have to worry about it again. Follow these steps for a seamless online workout!
We always suggest using a laptop over tablet or phone. The picture will be bigger, the audio will be clearer, and the camera will be much easier to direct. If you have to use a phone please make sure that you have a way to prop it up.
If you have the option to make the experience even better – use an HDMI cable to connect your laptop to your television or “mirror” your phone wirelessly to a Smart TV
If you have never used Zoom before you will be prompted to download the software
Please do so into the device that you will be using for your class.
You might be asked to give Zoom permission to access you microphone
You might be given an option to “join audio” Choose Computer Audio
Take a few minutes before class starts to join by clicking on the zoom link you received on your confirmation email.
You will have an opportunity to see what you look like to the instructor and position your camera/body for best visibility.
Place the device at least 8 feet away.
Either on the floor with camera facing slightly UP
or
On a shelf at head-height with camera facing slightly DOWN
The instructor should be able to see your entire body clearly AND You should be able to the the screen clearly (this is much easier when you project your screen to the television)
If you don’t have the space (8-10ft). It’s also okay to place the laptop on the floor with camera angled UP for the upperbody segment and then lower it so it’s LEVELED for the floorwork
You will have a few “views” to choose from.
CHOOSE SPEAKER VIEW
This allows you to see the Instructor in a large window and yourself (or the last speaker) in a small thumbnail box, usually at the top right corner of the screen. You can also remove this small box for a clearer experience.
Once the class begins your microphone will be muted by the instructor. This is done so that the class is not disrupted by unforeseen background noise like a phone ringing or baby crying.
If there’s an emergency statement you must make to the instructor such as a pain or discomfort; You can get the attention of the instructor by waving. You will then be unmuted. Other than that you can answer questions with a thumbsup and thumbsdown.
If you need to leave the session to go to the bathroom or for any other reason- just go. There is no need to ask or inform the instructor. When you get back- you will be reintegrated into the session.
If your baby starts crying or needs attention, please do not leave- You are encouraged to continue the session using your baby as a weight!
