Making it Work at Home

These are interesting times for sure! Stuck at home and worrying about a thousand things from work (if you even still have a job), to what to do with the kids, to what to do with your stress… Being at home all day is not easy and you might start to feel a little like Jack Nicholson in, “The Shining”.
Exercise has always been a great outlet for stress and frustration and now’s where you might be needing it the most. Unfortunately – “Gym’s are Closed!”
Now… While the entire world was hording toilet paper – we were hording bands and dumbbells… Though I’m guessing that’s not the typical move, we were kind of right to do so because Amazon seems to be out of a lot of exercise equipment. Even if they aren’t- maybe that’s a luxury you can’t afford right now. Either way – Have no fear! There’s a lot of common household items you can use as weights.
When looking for a suitable weight you want to make sure that the handle is sturdy. For example a gallon bottle of orange juice with a hard plastic handle is better than a plastic bag full of oranges
If you must use a bag, the shorter the handle is, the better (so that the actual weight is closer to your hand). You can cut the plastic bag handle and retie it to be shorter.
Large items such as cases of soda (beer?) can be great to press and deadlift but just be extra careful that your grip and form is proper- it can be tricky
Lastly- Use your baby!! You got yourself a living drooling sandbag! Your baby is by default the perfect weight to train with and you get the added bonus of bonding and taking some of that focus into a positive place.
